KCD-Mikrofinanzfonds - III
A sustainable way to invest your money
How does microfinance work?
Many people in developing and newly industrialized countries are unable to participate in economic life, even though they have sustainable ideas and often the necessary business knowledge and skills. The biggest obstacle they face is a lack of access to financial services.
Microfinance is a way to overcome this obstacle. Specialized microfinance institutions (MFIs) provide poor yet economically active women and men living in these countries with the support they need in the shape of microloans, which they can use to kick-start their economic livelihoods. Microfinance is a way to help people help themselves – to give them a chance to work their own way out of poverty.
A key element of this investment are the microfinance institutions in the countries themselves, who are there to advise and support borrowers, as well as offer them guidance about the products designed to meet their individual needs. Your money will therefore be put to work in the real economy.
Ethics and profit are not mutually exclusive
By choosing to invest in our KCD-Mikrofinanzfonds - III, you will know exactly where your money is going, and you will be doing your part in helping to ensure a just world. This fund makes it possible for microfinance institutions to provide microloans. For many people, this could mean a gateway to a better life. Each loan a client receives will benefit both the borrower and those around them. Living conditions for the entire family will improve and you as an investor will see your investment grow producing attractive and stable financial returns.
Sustainable investment
Our proven KCD microfinance fund concept reflects the Christian and cooperative values which form the foundation of our corporate policy. Now we are also opening up this fund to private investors like you.

Overcoming disability: a story of success in agriculture
Cambodia is one of the world’s poorest countries. Many of its inhabitants live predominantly from agriculture. One of them is Lim Thaovarith. Lim is 51 years old and 20 years ago lost one of her legs in a landmine accident. Shortly afterwards, her husband left her and her two children. So she could carry on providing for her children as a single parent and make sure they had an education, she decided to start growing a root vegetable known as cassava.
Since 2008 Lim has received a number of microloans from VisionFund which she has used to good effect. VisionFund is a Christian non-profit organisation which, alongside microloans, offers its customers other financial services, such as microinsurance policies. Lim's initial loan was the equivalent of approx. USD 75. She later took out a larger loan, which was the equivalent of roughly USD 270. Her repayment schedule was adjusted to suit the seasonal harvest. VisionFund believed that Lim could become a successful farmer despite her disability.
She has now been able to expand her farmland from one to three hectares. Her family's living standards have improved and she can now even afford to build a new house. She hopes to be able to steadily expand her business in the years to come. Her dream is for her eldest son to train to become a mobile phone repairer and, if possible, for her other son to become a teacher.
